  "We immediately felt at home"
Our daughter, Regan, was interested in Tae Kwon Do for a couple of years before coming to Black Belt USA. She had friends at school that attended there so we decided to visit. We immediately felt "at home." You both, along with all the other black belt instructors, provide such a warm and positive environment. Regan loves it! She can't wait to come, and once we're there, doesn't want to leave. That's exactly what we were searching for - something that she is passionate about. Thank you so much for the patience and encouragement that you show to each student. We are truly appreciative of you, your time and your commitment. We couldn't be happier in regard to Regan's growth since starting martial arts at Black Belt USA.

"Support for the whole student thru every area of their life"
I have been so very pleased with our family experience at Black Belt USA. We have been in your hands for almost a year now and I can hardly believe it. Time really does fly when you are having fun. Will and Jane began with you upon the recommendation of a trusted friend. I a forever grateful for that recommendation. I am so very glad that we attended our first open house and have enjoyed so many benefits since that time. The children are much more focused on fitness and flexibility. They are better able to set short and long term goals. They can measure progress as they climb thru the belt levels and work toward their dreams of achieving Black belt skill and the flexibility to do a full split! Will really enjoys the opportunities to make friends, work as both a team and individual. He tells me that he has learned to compete against himself and not just against his sister or other students. This brings him a greater sense of personal success without jealousy. His perseverance has really grown. His favorite break is the one which required the most effort and number of attempts before achieving the break.

Jane says the Masters are very, very nice. She enjoys the in-house tournaments and the frequent positive feedback. Jane also feels safe with her self defense knowledge and skill. She has been very motivated by the opportunities for steady progress in climbing thru the belts. She has been energized by success in the in-house tournaments. A Big trophy is a Big motivate for Little people. The student of the month belt has been a wonderful inspiration and motivation for both my children. It is a terrific acknowledgment of effort, attitude and commitment in addition to skill. Probably my favorite aspect of Black Belt USA is your support for the whole student thru every area of their life not limited to their success in the gym. The children know and appreciate the importance of scholastic, community, and family success. We want to acknowledge and thank you and all of the committed black belt instructors of Black Belt USA.

"Black Belt U.S.A. is no longer just a school, it is part of my life"
I have been interested in Martial Arts for a long time. However, growing up in a traditional Chinese family, kicking and punching is not really a “girl” thing. At age 20, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I have been on and off medication and therapies for close to 2 years but nothing seemed to have worked. Reading through my mail one day, I came across an advertisement for Black Belt U.S.A. For the first time in my life, I made a decision against tradition. I called the school right away and spoke with Master Dan King. Shortly after, I stopped by the school to see a class in session, and I started training.

After 6 months of training, my parents are gradually accepting Tae Kwon Do as a sport. They are as amazed as I am on what Tae Kwon Do has done for me that no other doctor was able to do. To me, Black Belt U.S.A. is no longer just a school, it is part of my life; it gave me another chance at life. I fell and was taught to stand; I was hurt and was taught to be stronger. Master and Dr. King not only gave me love and support; they also showed me my way to a new life.

"He is learning discipline, respect and his confidence level is soaring"
Our 4yr old son, David, expressed an interest in Tae Kwon Do this year. We began to look at different facilities to try and find a fit for him. The values being taught at some of these schools did not match what we wanted for our son. Then we called Master King at Black Belt USA and after talking with him we knew we had found what we were looking for. We scheduled a visit to observe the Little Ninjas class taught by Ms. Jill. David was hooked! He was so excited to be part of the Little Ninjas program. We are so impressed with the quality of the instructors at Black Belt USA. They are teaching him so much more than punches and kicks. He is learning discipline, respect and his confidence level is soaring.

The example set by Master and Dr. King reinforces the family values we try to instill at home. The excitement shown by David for Tae Kwon Do has been contagious! I decided to join him and it has brought us closer as father and son. Through the encouragement of Master and Dr. King my wife has also joined the Black Belt USA family. Being a stay-at-home mom she needed some time for her. The stress relief and exercise she found in Muay Thai was exactly what she was looking for (and David thinks it is really cool!) This is one of the best things we could have done as a family. As many classes as our 9 month old daughter has watched , I'm sure she will learn to kick before she walks! We are so thankful we found Black Belt USA.

"Black Belt USA truly is a family"
My daughter Melody and I became a part of the Black Belt USA family in July 2003...prior to our joining the school, Mel had been taken classes at another school across town that did not specilize in any one particular martial art and the philosophy of that school was quite different than mine when it came to teaching my child any skill..so the search began to find a new home...we made the call to Master King and entered the school a bit apprehensive as to what we might find--having been a bit jaded about the entire sport I was on guard...was I ever pleasantly surprised! Master King greeted us warmly and immediately established a positive repoir with Mel, who'd had nearly a year of training at this point...they began to kick and punch and LAUGH!

Melody was having a ball and there was not the intimidated look on her face that I had come to recognize during her lessons...without any hesitation she told me this was her new home! And home it has become, so much so that in September 2003 I began my own journey towards achieving my black belt...It's still fun! we work hard everyday mastering the skills shown us by the helpful staff and students, but look forward to coming with a zest not felt before...Black Belt USA truly is a family! We have both made great friends, learned more than we had anticipated and continue to enjoy the journey...the kindness of the Kings is unprecedented--Melody absolutely loves them! As a mother, I highly recommend martial arts training as a part of any child's growth and development and there is truly no better place to begin the journey than Black Belt USA!

"My outlook on everyday life has changed for the better"
Upon moving to Charlotte and starting my career I did not know very many people within the area. I decided to look into finding a martial art school and learning more about it since I've always been interested in martial arts and have always wanted to protect myself if need be. After looking at many martial art websites and reading to find out what type of martial art I would be interested in, I found Black Belt USA. I emailed and called them to see if I could come check out the school.

Upon visiting the school I found the atmosphere to be very inviting. Master and Dr. King introduced me to the two arts they have at the school, Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do. I decided to study both. Now that it has been 6 months since I've started studying Muay Thai and Tae Kwon Do my confidence and my outlook on everyday life has changed for the better. In studying these martial arts it challenges me everyday to become a stronger more confident woman. I look forward to the months and years to come at Black Belt USA.

"When we asked Ashley what she likes best about Black Belt USA, she immediately said the people"
In November of 2002, after hearing good things about your Martial Arts Academy, we brought our daughter, Ashley by to visit Black Belt USA. She had friends at her school that attended Black Belt USA and she wanted to see for herself what Tae Kwon Do was all about. We were immediately impressed with the respect and compassion that you and your black belt leaders gave to all of the students. It has been over a year, and we are very happy that we enrolled Ashley in your academy.

When we asked Ashley what she likes best about Black Belt USA, she immediately said “the people”. She adores the two of you. You are both so kind and patient. To see you both work one-on-one with the students to build their self-confidence and bring out their hidden talents is truly wonderful. It is also remarkable to see this same kindness and respect in the black belt leadership team that assists you in every class. We thank you for all of your time, patience, kindness, and respect. We look forward to Ashley's continuing growth in Tae Kwon Do at Black Belt USA.

"I always leave Muay Thai feeling rejuventated"
At the recommendation of a friend, I checked out the Black Belt USA Website. Out of curiousity I checked the box that said,"I may be interested in a free lesson." Master King called me the next day and invited me to take a class, knowing full well that once I came in and experienced it, I'd be hooked! I was immediately taken in by the positive and energetic atmosphere of the class. Whether I'm excited or cranky, worked up, or tired after a long day, I always leave Muay Thai feeling rejuventated and ready to take it all on again. I have never once felt incompetent or any less of a student because I may not be as advanced as nearly everyone else there.

Dr. and Master King are the most positive and caring individuals I've ever met and they install these qualities in every person whose lives they touch. I come to Muay Thai 3-4 times a week not only for a great workout, but to see all of the members of my new family. Thank you sincerely, Master and Dr. King!

"I started Muay Thai because I wanted to be confident in my self-defense skills"
As a police officer it is a necessity that I stay in shape, and that I have the skills I need to protect myself on or off duty. I started Muay Thai because I wanted to be confident in my self-defense skills, and I thought it was time that I get involved in Martial Arts as it has always been an interest of mine. Taking Muay Thai has provided the skills I need to ensure that I can react in certain situations that are presented to me while working, and Muay Thai is one of the ways I stay in good physical condition.

Master King and Dr. King are excellent instructors, and it is obvious from simply taking one class that both are very knowledgeable in both Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai. Muay Thai will always be a part of my life, and I firmly believe that it is one of the most beneficial styles of Martial Arts.

"The support that everyone gives and the genuine friendships and willingness to help out truly give you a feeling of belonging to a great big wonderful family"
I had been trying to think of something to get the kids into as an after school activity instead of Playstation, GameCube and wandering around the neighborhood. We came to watch my nephews at the In-House tournament and immediately decided to come back to observe a regular class. Seeing how well structured the classes were and how respectful the students were to you and the other students, sold me on not only enrolling the kids, but myself as well. I could not believe how well you and the other instructors were able to provide such detailed instruction while also catering to family interaction. It has been great to have something that the kids and I can do together everyday (aside from homework) outside the home. My wife loves it even more than we do. She gets 90 minutes a day at home without the kids and me. Did I say my wife really loves it?!?! I have also seen some very positive changes in the kids especially with confidence in themselves and their abilities. The way that you make sure that the children are recognized for scholastic achievements is wonderful. Spending your own money to award the children for academic achievement and making sure that they wear their patches for academic excellence on their uniforms as badges of honor really says a lot.

The relationships that have been formed with so many of the children, adults and even the parents that don't take Tae Kwon Do is wonderful. To have so many people come early and stay late just to hang out and enjoy each other's company is really something. The support that everyone gives and the genuine friendships and willingness to help out truly give you a feeling of belonging to a great big wonderful family. We truly love Black Belt USA . There is nowhere else we would rather be. P.S. This is only a small portion of what Black Belt USA means to my family. To express what Black Belt USA means to me personally would require my own page. Thank you a million times over!

"This experience is having a very positive impact on my family and myself"
I just wanted to extend my thanks and gratitude to you and Dr. King for the outstanding dedication and commitment you put into Black Belt USA. Keith Jr., A.J., Evan and I are really enjoying our time and experiences there, and we look forward to my wife joining us when her back is healed. As a father I am very pleased with the environment you have developed. I grew up participating in various sports, and I was exposed to some very good, caring coaches who were dedicated to the growth and development of my character as well as my athletic abilities. I was fortunate in that I had these same coaches for a number of years, which provided consistency from year to year. Those expectations from my coaches were no different from my parents'. As I look back on it now, I see that the outside reinforcement, consistent with my parents' desires for me, was extremely valuable in helping me develop my own work ethic and value system which I live by today. I see a parallel between my childhood experiences and that of my sons'. You are now their "COACH". So far in their lives, in the sports they have participated in, I have been the coach of their teams so they haven't had the external influences that I had. Now they have YOU!

As I have observed you, I've recognized your desire for each of your students to be their best. You want each student to work hard and EARN his or her rewards. You expect respect, discipline, commitment and hard work; the same things I desire for my sons, the things that I hope will be a vital part of their lives. Therefore, I am extremely pleased that you are a part of my sons' lives. And as far as me, I'm please to be there as well. I'm beginning to get back in shape. I am physically getting stronger, have lost a few pounds, and my flexibility is improving. I enjoy the challenges and getting to know my fellow students. I'm also finding that I am more disciplined at my work. Overall, this experience is having a very positive impact on my family and myself. For that, I am very grateful. Thank You.

Keith R. Long, Parent
